Abstract

This paper considers the necessity to make children develop the hobbies of reading and writing and harness them for economic empowerment. It has been observed that children have a whole lot of screen time and other free times. Many children are not given the opportunity to be better engaged, be thoughtful, imaginative and creative.Naturally, every child has the tendency to be creative. But it needs to be developed. Designating a time and place for everyone to read might help to develop these habits. Parents may harness children's reading and writing hobbies to serve as a source of economic empowerment when the children become authors of books, get it published online or as a hard copy by local publishers and get paid when they sell. The time invested is not a waste. This paper therefore explores the concepts of creativity in children, reading, writing and drawing habits, forming hobbies, the role of parents and teachers, the importance of developing reading, writing interests, economic and other benefits derived in having hobbies.
